 Muro Media Storage - Unfinished ©2008 Design Within Reach My specific project had a number of additional constraints, most importantly a very narrow wall section on which to mount the TV and false wall. The finished product cost less than $50 and was made with off the rack supplies from Home Depot. Apologies in advance for the mediocre photos. 
The bottom of the false wall is attached to the floor by a cut-to-size piano hinge. Another option might be small, vertical hinges anchored into the base of the wall. 
The finished product was quite shallow--the interior space was just slightly deeper than a standard power strip.
